West Papua: The Secret War
in Asia

The
forgotten land of West Papua is under brutal Indonesian military
occupation. Its tribal people are being slaughtered, and their unique
environment destroyed. But the world is doing nothing to stop it.
In 1963, in violation of international law, Indonesia
occupied and colonised the West Papuan homeland in the western part of
New Guinea.
Since that tragic event the West Papuans are asking
for a fair referendum about their independence. At least 100.000
indigenous people lost their lives in this secret war.

I hope
you are all enjoying the festive season! I am enjoying some rest at home with
my family; we’ve decorated the tree, done the shopping and already eaten too
much! It’s good to be able to rest after a busy term and look back over an
eventful 2012!
Towards the end of last term we held our annual Agapé Student Life Christmas Party. It was held in my team members,
Johns and Ruth’s, house and was full of students, mostly those who aren’t
Christians. It was great to hang out with some familiar faces and get to know
some new ones, hear John share the real Christmas message with the students and
this year I was even on the winning team for the Christmas quiz!

Thank you so much for all your support, love and prayers throughout 2012. I feel
so blessed to be able to partner in the gospel with you all and see God at
work. Please continue to pray with me in 2013 as we continue to share the
gospel with students on Birmingham campus with the hope of seeing Jesus
transform lives. I pray that you would continue to discover the heights and
depths of God’s love in the year to come.

Anak-anak kecil pedalaman Papua
Masa kecil adalah masa-masa yang sangat
menyenangkan, masa dimana penuh dengan keceriaan, menghabiskan waktu
dengan bermain. Selalu merasa semua mudah, menginginkan berbagai hal
dengan cara-cara masing-masing. Bahkan dengan menangis dan lain
sebagainya. Semakin lengkap dengan suara tawa khas dan suara
tangisan bocah-bocah cilik ini. Sama halnya dengan anak-anak yang ada
di pedalaman Papua selama sepanjang hidup di bawah tekanan kolonial. Ruang dan perilaku sesuai dengan masanya. keceriaan ini sangat
terbawa hingga beranjak, saat mulai mengenal dunia dewasa. Akan tetapi
masa-masa tahapan menuju kedewasaan inilah, yang akan menjadi dasar
lahirnya idiologi di dalam diri.
Sebagai anak Papua mengapa situasi dan
keadaan kita seperti ini ? apa yang terjadi sebenarnya mulai menjadi
pengaruh tersendiri dalam diri dan melahirkan tanda tanya yang akan
terus berlanjut. Hingga mendapat jawaban yang sesuai barulah puas atas
apa yang selama ini dalam benaknya. Senyum kecerian anak Papua ini,
semoga tidak terganti dengan ratapan kesedihan, tangisan air mata duka,
bagi negerinya, tanah airnya masih terjajah tetapi ketika mereka
beranjak dewasa mereka akan sadari dan bangkit bersatu untuk melawan
sistem negara yang menjajah bangsa Papua.
